Sustainable Water Management at Leena Ravichandran Residence, Ernakulam

Water conservation begins at home — and this inspiring rainwater harvesting project by JB Group (JB Rainwater Harvesting Company) in Ernakulam proves just that.

At the residence of Mrs. Leena Ravichandran, “Kavooti” House (No. 447-A/III), Thathyalil Parambil, Perumpilly, via Mulanthuruthy, Ernakulam – 682314, JB Group successfully installed a scientific rooftop rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge system designed to make the household water self-sufficient and environmentally sustainable.

Project Overview

Mrs. Leena Ravichandran, a forward-thinking homeowner, approached JB Rainwater Harvesting Company to implement a reliable solution that would utilize her roof area for well and borewell recharge.

Our team conducted a detailed technical survey, considering rainfall data, roof area, and soil absorption capacity. The customized system was designed to recharge both the open well and bore well, ensuring continuous water availability throughout the year.

Project Overview

  • Total Rooftop Area Utilized: 1,550 sq. ft.
    • Open Well Recharge: 1,000 sq. ft.
    • Bore Well Recharge: 550 sq. ft.
  • Average Annual Rainfall (Perumpilly, Ernakulam): 3,000 mm
  • Rainwater Harvesting Components Installed:
    • JB Rainwater Filters (200-micron core) for both well and bore well recharge systems
    • First Flush Valves to remove initial runoff contaminants

System Design and Working Principle

Rainwater from the rooftop is channelled through first flush valves, ensuring that the first set of dusty runoff is diverted. The clean water then passes through JB Rainwater Filters, which use a 200-micron core to remove debris and fine particles.

Filtered water is directed to recharge both the open well and bore well, enhancing water table levels naturally. The JB Rain Percolator, installed as part of the system, accelerates groundwater infiltration, maximizing the recharge rate and maintaining long-term aquifer health.

Environmental and Social Impact

Since the installation, the system has shown impressive results in improving groundwater levels and enhancing water quality. The well now retains more water even during dry months, demonstrating the effectiveness of a scientifically designed rainwater harvesting system.

This project stands as a model for individual homeowners in Kerala who wish to contribute to water conservation, sustainable living, and climate resilience. It highlights how simple, well-engineered systems can turn every home into a rainwater harvesting hub.

The rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge system implemented by JB Group at Leena Ravichandran’s residence is a testament to sustainable home design and responsible water management.

By integrating Rainwater Filters, First Flush Valves, and the JB Rain Percolator, this project ensures maximum efficiency, water purity, and long-term groundwater sustainability.

JB Group continues to lead the way in rainwater harvesting in Kerala, providing innovative, eco-friendly solutions that empower communities to conserve water and recharge the earth — one roof at a time.
